If you've played RuneScape in the past nine months, the gameplay won't have actually changed all that much. The new HTML 5 client looks a hell of a lot better than the Java version, the audio has received an overhaul, and the entire user interface is now customisable, but the core game is still the same. For most recent players, the upgraded client simply acts a shiny lens through which to view the world and the overhauled user interface. The content from updates spanning the past decade is all still there, with every quest and area having been kept up to date and in working order.
 
New resizable, movable windows allow players to modify their game screen’s composition at any given time. Ultimately a user can now choose to open and resize windows to facilitate whatever task he or she is completing in the game. This includes chat boxes, combat interfaces, the mini-map and sidebars. Added zoom ability lets players use their computer’s scroll button to zoom closer to and further away from his or her character. This feature was, oddly enough, not available before the update. The skills are trained all over the map (not in instanced areas) and they are fully integrated in the environment in a very interactive way.
 
To give an example, imagine that you are starting off in the game and you need food supplies. Your first stop is to thieve some seeds from farmers (thieving skills) and plant them (farming skill). While you wait for the plants to grow, you can go kill a few chickens (combat skills). The chickens drop feathers which you can use with your fishing rod to get salmon (fishing skill) from one of the rivers. Now you have some raw food that you need to cook. Just get your hatchet, cut some wood (woodcutting skill), light the wood (firemaking skill), then cook the fish and the plants you harvested over the fire (cooking skill).
 
Free players and members are divided off into different worlds so whichever one you pick you’ll find a supportive, lively community of good natured players. This game is generally orientated at teenagers and young adults and the community tends to consist of mature, polite and helpful people who genuinely care about the game and its players. If you’re the type of gamer who isn’t really into group activities and much prefers to play solo then this game supports that 100%. There is practically nothing which requires lots of other people and, in the rare case that it does, the forums are constantly thriving with people who are probably in a similar situation to you. Whereas some online multiplayer games can be critical of new players you’re more likely to find players who are willing to help out somebody who is new as there’s no detriment to them or their skills.
 
Competition for resources is limited to certain skills like combat training and mining and many activities are social and non-competitive like firemaking, where you get bonus experience for sharing a bonfire, or fishing; where resources are not dependent on the number of people fishing. Dungeoneering is a skill that involves descending down levels of a mysterious fortress in the wilderness and is more advantageous to players if done in groups of 2 or more, though it can be done solo, so teamwork is encouraged but generally at your own pace. Hundreds of unique cards will be available for strategic deck building in a world rich in legend and lore. Crafting will play an important part of the game. But one thing mobile gamers have been asking for long is an offline mode, and that is why the game will deliver Gauntlet, an offline mode for players to enjoy while disconnected.
 
RuneScape has been one of the first titles to immensely focus on quests and this is what this upcoming game will feature. Your character will be performing quests before facing an opponent. The fascinating thing is that Chronicle: RuneScape Legends will portray the epic battles in a 3D environment that has been rarely seen on mobile devices for this genre. As you can tell from the images, it looks visually gorgeous.
