RuneScape is going to be a regular game for the Diaries From column, published on the last Thursday of each month and covering the entire month’s worth of updates. The eleven city of Prifddinas has quickly become one of my favorite updates of 2014, and not just because I’ve been waiting for this update ever since it was teased way back in 2004. I went through high school and ended up one semester away from my bachelor’s degree in the time Jagex took to put this update out. There are kids playing RuneScape today who were still in diapers when the city was first teased. It was a really long time ago.

 

HTML 5 is the big news for the free-to-play MMO, upgrading the graphics engine from the Java client of old. The new engine brings a series of graphical improvements to the game, including a vastly improved draw distance and new graphical effects, including improved shadows and reflections. One of the key things about HTML 5 is that Jagex, the game's developers, could use the graphics hardware inside a PC. "Before everything was put on the CPU, but now we can focus on the graphics card and run a lot on there," said Dean Ollive, content development manager at Jagex.

 

The characters in RS likewise lack a certain kind of subtlety. They are bland and boring and ... pretty much all the same. The lead character, Theodore, is considered a brown-noser at the beginning of the story and the problem is, who likes a brown-noser? Are we supposed to relate to that and feel bad for him that no one likes him? In law school, we call those people gunners and no one likes them. No one. JMods (Jagex Moderators) and PMods (Player Moderators) are Jagex staff and respected longtime players with spotless records, are roaming "players" who watch for problems as offensive content, personal verbal attacks on real players, the giving out of personal information and such.

 

This part of the training is the most difficult and requires the largest amount of dedication. Deadly Red Spiders can be found in the Stronghold of Security, Varrock sewers, and the Karamja Jungle. Deadly Red spiders provide 400 experience per kill, and are not very crowded during day times. It’s recommended to use rune war hammers or mace or rune/gravite 2 handed sword. It is highly recommended that players use the best equipment available to them at their level. For example, if while training you reach a Defense level of 20, it’s worth going to the GE immediately to purchase some steel armor. Be sure to check the stat requirements in game for all armor and weapons.

 

So, I'm sure if you're on the internet you've heard of Runescape. Well, I've been a huge fan of this game since I was like, 12 or younger, I’m not 100% sure. But I've played this game since it's classic version, which was released in 2001. Runescape 2 was released in 2003, and now Runescape 3 FINALLY being released here in 2013. 10 years after Runescape 2 was released. Training is an activity done in order to increase a player's experience in one or more skills. Activities which are not done primarily for gaining experience are not usually considered to be training (for example, fighting the King Black Dragon in order to obtain rare item drops). The new version of the game, Runescape 3, is upgrading from Java to HTML5, and they've added a new customizable interface system, as well as a combat system.

 

The undead also make for a fascinating enemy, mainly due to the group hierarchy. Although feared (and rightly so) it turns out the Werewolves are mere puppets and playthings for the Vampires to amuse themselves with. They live in squalor, starving to death, and those who are taken to serve in the castles never return. They do the Vampire’s bidding just to survive, and this is not an imagery we are used to when talking about Werewolves. There isn’t much interaction between the group and the Vampire Lords, but what little there is will send a shiver down your spine. They are all powerful, and have had centuries to plot their crossing over the River Salve.
